According to some, “the only permanent thing in this world is change.” But that is only a matter concerning the many things in this world. Aside from this ,many are already contented only on taking chances, or placing in their hands the surety of things. Above all, they have other things they value most in their lives which in God’s standard has no value. All of these are based on the following; how they know God and His words, of what kind of words they make as basis, on how they study, of what is their understanding of faith, and of what kind of living they have among those who believed. These are reasons why many are only taking chances but are not sure of their salvation, as if it’s like on installment basis. But,do we have part in keeping our assurance?
“Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.” Act 17:31
Here we can see that in the eyes of God we can be sure. If you are unsure, then your God is not the God of the Scripture.
“And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.” 1Co 15:14
Why Man Needs Assurance Today?
“In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ
according to my gospel.” Rom 2:16
We are told that men will someday face judgment. This is the reason why many religious groups are preaching their so called “salvation‟. Of course, we too, having trusted in Christ, have to do the same.
Rom 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Many are preaching and teaching what is the remedy, what can take away man’s sin, what can give man salvation, justification and can make him righteous before God. And no wonder, man has a lot of inventions and additions to what God already had provided. Is it true that your salvation can be lost? Is it true that you have to do certain things or be good in order to maintain it? Can a believer become unsaved? Let us study to answer these things.
Rom 10:2 -3 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
WE MUST CONSIDER
1. That God is pleased by faith.
(Heb 11:6) 1Co 1:21
“For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.” He is the Creator and in Him all depends. (Acts 17:28; Col.1:16)
2.That when He said it, it happens
2Ti 3:16″ All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” That is why I believed because He said so (Acts 27:25; 2 Co.4:13) He does not lie Tit 1:2 “In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;”
Isa 55:9-11 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”
Psa 33:4-9 “For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth. He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD. By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. He gathereth the waters of the sea together as a heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. For he spoke, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.“
3. That His word is forever settled in heaven and He takes care of it .
Psa 119:89 Forever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.
Psa 146:6 Which made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that therein is: which keepeth truth forever:
Luk 21:33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
1Co 13:10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
If ever it will be destroyed by anybody He can replace it (Ex.32:19;34:1;Deut.10:1-4; Jer.36:20-32). Many translations separated from proper way of translating. Others are not from preserved text and are full of corruptions. (I prefer to use a King James Version Only)
4. That the manner of studying it is by rightly dividing
2Ti 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
5. That the Saviour is the one Who holds the salvation.
2Ti 1:12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
Eph 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
Phi 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
Who is the Saviour and who keepeth salvation? If the keeping of it is in man, surely he can’t keep it. But it’s not in man to take care of it but it’s the Lord’s. It is on our testimony we have to take care but not on salvation. Whatever He holdeth can never be snatched by any man (Jn.10:24) because we are in the hands of Christ .Phi 3:12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.
We are in the period of the revelation of the mystery of the gospel and this is not equal to the giving of the Law.
WE MUST KNOW
A.The Source of Knowledge and the Way to be Saved
2Ti 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
Herein was taught the importance of the word of God in giving knowledge how to be saved, and also the salvation which is by faith in Christ Jesus our Lord. God is the Author of His words and through it He revealed His ways. Therefore, if the word of God that you have has many changes, what strength will be to have it as your basis? And if the truth concerning our Lord Jesus Christ is also changed, can you still fully place on Him ,and on what He have done, the assurance of your salvation? This is one reason why God preserved His words, the KJV. It truly honors the Lord Jesus. That’s why many are taking chances through good works to be saved, or through faith plus work, or through working of sacrament based on tradition, or through devoting to other person (called saint) or if not through joining an organization (religion). Now, where is the importance of the Lord and His words? No other writings will tell you how to be saved but through the word of God. Many religious groups has many additional writings or books but a true believer uses God’s preserved Book.
B. The Scriptural Basis To Us
Not all commands, prohibition ,and promises which can be read in the word of God is about us in this period where the mystery of the gospel is revealed. When we use what is not to us, for e.g. [Rev.3:16 “that according to others, if one’s faith is cold ,he will be spewed,” or Mt.10:22b endurance to the end is needed as they teaches, on Mt.7:19 if fruitless (without a soul being won) will be cut off, also using Jn.15:2 which pertains to pruning they meant to be cutting off, which is equivalent to loosing salvation.]
There are also scripture which they wrongly use for e.g. [Ph.2:12 which they meant to be “to work for “ instead of “work from”, or Acts 2:47 if they will not join a religion or a group to be a member.] These are verses that many wrest to suit what they said they believed.
The things which concern our position, practice ,and promises for those believers who are members of the body of Christ is only found in those written by Paul , the apostle to the Gentiles (Ep.3:1-11). There are many things written for the Jews which are not about us, though it can be FOR us, it can not be TO us. We will be judged by the gospel as preached by Paul (Rm.2:16) so we better read and study God’s revelation to Him. It is of timely authority because 1Co 14:37 says “If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.” But we also have to rightly divide it, seeing that Paul never returned to some of what he did before. We have to rightly divide even his epistles, what are those written during Acts account and those prison letters containing God’s revelation of mystery.
WE MUST BELIEVE
A.The Word as a proof
Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
The word used is SAVED (Ep.2:5; Col.1:13; 2 Tim.1:9, 3:14; Tit.3:5; 1 Co.1:18) .It means that it is already a reality for those who believed. But this is not to be considered as license unto evil (2Tim.2:19) but unto good (Eph.2:10)
B.The Spirit as a proof
In this period where the mystery of the gospel has been revealed, we can see some differences. The Holy Spirit during king Saul and Solomon’s time departs (1Sam.16:14, Jud.16:20d) and David even thought that it can be taken from Him (Ps.51;10-12) . Now it is revealed
Eph 1:13 -14 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
In the word of God, whatever is sealed or is sealed by a king means ownership and that no one can alter, open or change the purpose for its reason being sealed (Ester.8:8; Dan.6:17, Isa.29;11; Rev.5:1-50) .Much more this seal of the Holy Spirit because this is not a work of man. This is not just to show ownership but a guarantee or a proof that cannot be changed by man (2Co.1:22; Eph.4:30) no matter if you’ve been kicked out from whatsoever denomination you are formerly in.
C. The Witnesses as a proof
In the mouth of two or three witnesses a thing is established (2Co.13:1). We can also read 1Co 15:3-6 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the Scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.
It is also written
1Co 15:14-20 “And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not. For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.”
This is one of those called as infallible proof (Acts 2:3). He was risen to give us sure hope.
WE MUST STOP
We must stop from trying to do that we can, because Christ has done it already. We must stop from placing it in our hands, nor in the hands of any man, nor in any organizations. Unlike the insurance mentality wherein you have to invest for it, the Lord already has done it on our behalf. He has given it freely ( Rm.3:24; Eph.2:8-9). He is the author of faith and salvation and He is the one Who will and Who can fulfill it (Php.1:6: Heb.12:2)
Phi 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
1Th 1:5 For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.
Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
WE MUST GIVE THANKS
Col 1:12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
2Th 2:13 But we are bound to give thanks always to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:
Our security is not like insurance wherein we have to do some part like an installment basis. Assurance lies in His words. Not only that He cannot lie (Tit.1:2) He is able (Eph.3:20), He is willing (1 Tim.2:4) and He is faithful (2 Tim.2:13; 1 Co.10:13). 1 Th.5:24, 2 Th.3:3).This made me safe and secured. But how about you?
